Brighton & Hove Albion secured a thrilling 2-1 victory over Manchester United at the American Express Stadium on Saturday, thanks to a stoppage-time header from João Pedro. The win marked a perfect start to the Premier League season for new Brighton manager Fabian Hürzeler, who has now guided his team to two consecutive wins.

Brighton took the lead in the 32nd minute when Danny Welbeck tapped in a cross from Kaoru Mitoma, scoring his 100th career goal and his sixth against his former club. Manchester United equalized on the hour mark with a deflected shot from Amad Diallo, setting up a tense final half-hour.

United thought they had taken the lead when Alejandro Garnacho’s shot found the back of the net, but the goal was disallowed for offside after Joshua Zirkzee’s knee was ruled to have interfered with the play.

With the game seemingly destined for a draw, Brighton’s Simon Adingra delivered a pinpoint cross in the fifth minute of added time, allowing João Pedro to rise unmarked and head the ball past United goalkeeper Andre Onana. The goal sealed a well-deserved win for the Seagulls, who now sit at the top of the table.

Brighton’s victory adds to Manchester United’s recent struggles, with Erik ten Hag’s side left to rue missed chances and defensive lapses. For Brighton, the result is a statement of intent as they continue their strong start to the season.
