Arsenal Secure Narrow 1-0 Win Over Shakhtar Donetsk Despite Injury Concerns and Missed Penalty

Arsenal earned a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League, but the win came with concerns as defender Riccardo Calafiori was forced off with a knee injury, potentially leaving him out of the upcoming Liverpool clash.

The only goal came in the first half when Gabriel Martinelli’s shot hit the post and rebounded off Shakhtar goalkeeper Dmytro Riznyk into the net. Arsenal missed a chance to double their lead in the second half when Leandro Trossard’s penalty was saved by Riznyk, adding to the tense finish.

Calafiori’s injury added to Arsenal’s growing defensive worries, with William Saliba already suspended and Jurrien Timber and Takehiro Tomiyasu sidelined. Despite the challenges, Arsenal held on, thanks to a last-minute acrobatic save by David Raya, preventing Shakhtar’s Pedrinho from leveling the score.

With the victory, Arsenal now have seven points from three Champions League games, positioning them well in the group stage, but they face a potential defensive headache ahead of their Premier League showdown with Liverpool.
