Manchester United secured their first Europa League victory of the season with a 2-0 win over PAOK Salonika at Old Trafford, powered by a brace from Amad Diallo. The win also marked interim manager Ruud van Nistelrooy’s first European success since taking charge, following a string of draws under former manager Erik ten Hag.

After a lackluster first half, Diallo opened the scoring just five minutes into the second half. He expertly headed a Bruno Fernandes cross back across goal into the bottom corner, giving United a much-needed breakthrough. PAOK had their chances, with United goalkeeper André Onana making a crucial save to deny Mady Camara in the first half and Taril Tissoudali failing to convert a close-range opportunity in the 64th minute.

Diallo sealed the win in the 77th minute with an impressive solo effort, dispossessing Baba Rahman before curling a shot from outside the box into the far corner, aided by a slight deflection. It was a standout performance from the young winger, who was named Player of the Match for his decisive goals and dynamic play.

Van Nistelrooy, who remains unbeaten in his three matches as interim boss, praised Diallo’s impact: “He made a difference today because of his goals but was very sharp overall. It was a pretty poor first half, but we improved in the second half.”

The victory lifts Manchester United to six points in the Europa League standings, giving them a much-needed boost ahead of the arrival of new manager Ruben Amorim. Diallo expressed his delight post-match: “It’s been a long time since we won in Europe. Today, I showed why I belong here. Scoring twice was special, but the win was the most important thing.”

With this result, United have momentum on their side as they look to advance in the competition under new leadership.
