Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and former Governor of Rivers State, has issued a stern warning to Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governors, threatening to instigate crises in their states if they continue to support his successor, Governor Siminalayi Fubara, against him.
Wike made these remarks during the PDP Congress in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, following a political standoff over control of the PDP structure in the state. The PDP governors had recently endorsed Fubara, urging the party’s national leadership to recognize him as the leader of the PDP in Rivers.
Wike, a prominent PDP figure now serving in the All Progressives Congress (APC) administration under President Bola Tinubu, expressed outrage over what he described as attempts by some PDP governors to interfere in Rivers’ politics. “I hear some governors say they will take away the structure from us. I pity those governors because I will put fire in their states,” Wike said. “Whether you are from Bauchi or wherever, if you try to interfere in Rivers State, your hand will get burnt.”
Despite his ongoing role as a federal minister, Wike remains a vocal critic of the PDP leadership and has vowed to maintain his influence in Rivers. He accused the PDP governors of undermining his faction, warning them of potential backlash. “We are the owners of the party, and we have taken our party back. Let nobody think they can take the structure from us while we live,” Wike declared.
The ongoing feud has highlighted the deep divisions within the PDP, raising questions about the party’s unity and prospects ahead of future elections.
