Senator Monday Okpebholo has been declared the winner of the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election for the September 2024 governorship race in Edo State. He secured victory with 12,433 votes, surpassing eleven other contestants.
The declaration was made by Governor Bassey Otu of Cross River State, who chaired the revised APC Edo Gubernatorial Election Committee. Out of 41,784 total votes cast, Okpebholo emerged victorious with a significant margin.
The primary election, marked by 31,863 accredited voters, saw 31,863 valid votes, with zero invalid votes. Among the contestants, Dr. Blessing A. secured 731 votes, Gerald Charles garnered 1,181 votes, and Senator O.O Osunbor obtained 634 votes. Colonel David Imose received 423 votes, while Senator Monday Okpebholo emerged as the frontrunner with 12,433 votes.
Other contenders included Hon. Dennis Idahosa with 6,541 votes, Everest Afolabi with 2,117 votes, and Gideon O. Ikhanire with 720 votes. Pastor Ize-Iyamu obtained 378 votes, Amero Sunday secured 2,562 votes, Agba Clement garnered 2,732 votes, and Lucky Imasuen received 493 votes.
This primary followed the cancellation of a previous one by the National Working Committee of the party. The NWC decided to reconduct the primary after discrepancies arose from the initial exercise, where multiple winners were declared.
