Nollywood actor-turned-lawmaker Desmond Elliot has addressed recent rumors about his sexuality, asserting that he is straight and has no interest in engaging with baseless gossip. The controversy began after a blog post named him among several high-profile Nigerians alleged to be involved in same-sex relationships, sparking speculation and online backlash.
In an interview with TVC, Elliot, who represents Surulere Constituency 1 in the Lagos State House of Assembly, clarified his stance on the allegations. He explained that he chose not to respond earlier because the rumors neither impact his life nor his dedication to public service.
“Why would I respond to allegations made against me when it did not reduce or increase my life?” he questioned. “I don’t think it’s necessary to come out and say it’s true or not true; as long as I’m affecting people positively, I’m good.”
Elliot also expressed support for personal freedom within the law, encouraging individuals to “do you” as long as their actions respect others and follow legal boundaries. “So let me say right here, I am straight. You can never have anyone straighter than me,” he added, underscoring his lack of concern for those seeking publicity through the allegations.
For Elliot, the focus remains on his responsibilities as a public servant, while he dismisses the rumors as “malicious gossip” unworthy of his attention.
