Bobrisky Freed After Four Months in Prison, Urges Caution on Naira Handling
Controversial Nigerian crossdresser Idris Okuneye, known as Bobrisky, has been released from Kirikiri Correctional Center after serving over four months of a six-month sentence for naira abuse. Bobrisky was seen leaving the facility on Monday morning, accompanied by two friends in a luxury car.
Bobrisky’s imprisonment began on April 12, following a sentencing by Justice Abimbola Awogboro of the Lagos High Court. The court found Bobrisky guilty of mutilating naira notes, handing down a six-month prison term without the option of a fine. The judge specified that the sentence commenced on March 24, the date of Bobrisky’s arrest.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had charged Bobrisky on four counts related to naira abuse. During sentencing, Justice Awogboro emphasized that the ruling would serve as a warning to others who might abuse the naira.
Upon his release, Bobrisky cautioned Nigerians against naira abuse to avoid prison. In an interview with GoldMyneTV, he said, “You have to follow the rules and abide by the laws. Don’t spray money, or you will become a landlord in Kirikiri. It is not just about serious crimes; even something as minor as spraying naira can land you in prison.”
Expressing gratitude to his supporters, Bobrisky added, “I’m focusing my good energy on people who were there for me, like my friends. Any other person, I’m not interested. I’m really grateful to my friends and loved ones.”
