According to Jesutega Onokpasa, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), many APC members are feeling uneasy about the actions of the current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike. Onokpasa highlighted this discomfort in the context of the ongoing dispute between Wike and the current governor of Rivers State, Sim Fubara.
In an interview on Arise TV, Onokpasa clarified that the APC, including President Bola Tinubu, is not involved in the current crisis in Rivers State. The chieftain sought to distance the party and its leadership from the ongoing tensions between Wike and Fubara.
He said Wike is not a member of the APC and that he is an appointee of the President so he must stop these antics and face his job as FCT Minister.
“Our party has no hand in whatever is happening in Rivers state. As for Wike, a lot of our party members are pretty uncomfortable with some of his antics. That is just the bitter truth. Our President called, called Governor Fubara, tried to achieve a settlement between the two parties and then the next thing we hear is some people are decamping and there are moves to impeach the governor and we woke up one morning and then a budget is presented, some people their seats are declared vacant, the House of Assembly is being demolished. These are very bad optics. That is just the truth and I personally, I am uncomfortable with….not only me, a lot of our party members, with Minister Wike. What are basically his excesses> You are a Minister of the Federal Republic for God’s sake. You are not even a member of our party. Our president gave you and appointment. Face your job for God’s sake. Enough of these antics, these excesses.”
