Gypsy Rose Blanchard Announces Pregnancy Following Release from Prison

Gypsy Rose Blanchard, who conspired with her former boyfriend to kill her mother after years of forced medical abuse, announced on Tuesday that she is pregnant. The baby is due in January, a little over a year after her release from prison.

In a heartfelt YouTube video, Blanchard expressed her hopes of giving her child everything she lacked growing up. “I just want to be a good mother for my child,” she said, fighting back tears. “I want to be everything my mother wasn’t.”

Blanchard’s case drew national attention after it was revealed that her mother, Clauddine “Dee Dee” Blanchard, had forced her to pretend she was gravely ill. Dee Dee manipulated doctors into performing unnecessary procedures by claiming Gypsy’s medical records were lost in Hurricane Katrina. It was later determined that Dee Dee suffered from Munchausen syndrome by proxy, a disorder where caregivers seek attention through their child’s fabricated illnesses.

At 23, Gypsy provided a knife to her then-boyfriend, Nicholas Godejohn, who fatally stabbed her mother. The pair fled to Wisconsin, where they were arrested. Godejohn is serving a life sentence, while Gypsy received a reduced sentence due to the abuse she endured.

Since her release, Gypsy has spoken openly about her past, promoting a Lifetime docuseries and her e-book, “Released: Conversations on the Eve of Freedom.” Despite doubts about her readiness for motherhood, she feels prepared. “It’s an amazing feeling when your whole world shifts,” she said. “It’s about this tiny little life that you are now in charge of protecting.”

The baby’s father is Ken Urker, a former prison pen pal who proposed to Gypsy while she was incarcerated. They rekindled their relationship after her release and are excited to start a family together. “I couldn’t be happier,” she said. “Everything that has ever happened to me in my life suddenly doesn’t matter because it all led me to this moment.”

Blanchard hopes to provide her child with the love and care she missed in her own upbringing, marking a new chapter in her life.
