A body has been recovered during the search for Victoria Taylor, a 34-year-old mother who went missing from her home in Malton, North Yorkshire, on September 30. While formal identification is still pending, police have informed Taylor’s family of the discovery, and they are being supported by specialist officers.
The body was found in the River Derwent around 11:45 AM on Tuesday by underwater search teams. Victoria’s belongings were previously discovered near the river, and CCTV footage had shown her heading in that direction on the day she disappeared.
North Yorkshire Police launched a major search after she was reported missing on October 1, involving divers and sonar equipment. A week into the search, police indicated a “significant possibility” that Taylor had entered the river.
Assistant Chief Constable Wayne Fox expressed the family’s distress at the news but also shared their gratitude for the community’s support during the search. Her sisters, Emma and Heidi, had earlier thanked the public for their ongoing efforts, saying, “The local community is amazing, from putting up posters to daily search walks.”
The investigation continues, with formal identification expected to bring clarity to the case and closure for Taylor’s family.
