Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has openly defended his position in President Bola Tinubu’s administration, challenging critics who are unhappy with his involvement in the All Progressives Congress (APC) government. Wike, a long-standing member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), is the only opposition figure in Tinubu’s cabinet.
Speaking at the PDP Congress in Rivers State, Wike expressed satisfaction with his role and dismissed criticism that his appointment was a reward for working against the PDP’s 2023 presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar. “We are fully in government. We are fully in Tinubu’s government. I have no regrets about it, and I will continue to be there. Anybody who is angry should go and hug a transformer,” he said defiantly.
Wike also took the opportunity to criticize some PDP governors, including his former protégé, Governor Siminalayi Fubara, accusing them of attempting to take control of the party from his faction. He warned these governors of potential backlash, saying, “I pity those governors because I will put fire in their states. When God has given you peace, you say you don’t want peace. Your hands will get burnt.”
Despite being a prominent PDP figure, Wike remains firm in his support for the current administration, highlighting the ongoing rift within the party. His bold statements underscore his unwavering stance and willingness to challenge any opposition from within the PDP ranks.
