In the ongoing operations by the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army to ensure safety in Taraba State, troops of the 93 Battalion under the Brigade have successfully arrested a notorious gunrunner named Joshua Dutse Idah, aged 45. He was apprehended on January 20, 2024, in Ibi town of Ibi LGA while driving to Kaduna State. During his arrest, troops recovered 1 PK Machine Gun, 399 rounds of 7.62 mm Special ammunition, and 3 AK 47 Rifle Magazines.
Furthermore, on January 25, 2024, troops arrested Janet Igohia, aged 31, in Chanchanji, who was in possession of one million, five hundred thousand naira ransom payment for an abducted victim. Igohia revealed her affiliation with a violent extremist group in southern Taraba and her marriage to its leader. Troops also apprehended two suspected gunrunners, Alhaji Adamu Damisa, aged 40, and Usman Isah, aged 44, at Mararaba Baissa community with 664,000 naira and two mobile phones.
Additionally, on February 7, 2024, troops arrested a suspected violent extremist named Malam Muhammadu Shuaibu, aged 50, in Bali Local Government Area. He had been on the run after being linked to the recovery of three Dane Guns from his residence.
These arrests underscore the military’s commitment to dismantling criminal networks in Taraba State. The suspects and recovered items will be handed over to appropriate authorities for further investigation and prosecution.
