Former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello requested the Federal High Court in Abuja to transfer his fraud case to Kogi State. The request was made on June 27, as Bello failed to appear in court for the fifth time regarding an alleged N82 billion embezzlement.
Bello’s lawyers, led by Adeola Adedipe, SAN, made the request to Chief Judge Justice John Tsoho, stating that the alleged crime occurred in Kogi State. Adedipe informed Justice Emeka Nwite that Bello prefers to be arraigned in Lokoja, as the court there has the proper jurisdiction for the case.
Recall that on June 13, Yahaya Bello’s lawyer made a commitment to produce Bello in court for today’s arraignment.
The prosecution, led by Kemi Pinheiro, SAN, has asked that Bello’s lead counsel, Abdulwahab Mohammed, and Adeola Adedipe, both Senior Advocates, be tried for contempt for “misleading the court.”
