Training for New Police Constables to Start August 10

The Police Service Commission (PSC) has confirmed that training for newly recruited police constables will commence on August 10, 2024. This announcement follows the recruitment of 10,000 constables, a process overseen by former chairman Solomon Arase.

Despite initial objections from Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun, who alleged corruption in the recruitment process, the PSC is moving forward with the training as planned. Egbetokun claimed that some qualified candidates were replaced with unqualified ones, an allegation the PSC has firmly denied.

In a statement on Monday, PSC’s Head of Press and Public Relations, Ikechukwu Ani, urged successful applicants to check the recruitment website for further details. “The Police Recruitment Board has approved August 10, 2024, for the commencement of training for successful applicants of the 2022 Constable Recruitment exercise,” Ani said.

Candidates are required to confirm their status by logging into the recruitment website. Specialist applicants will start their training two months after the general duty recruits, with specific dates and venues to be announced later.

Ani expressed gratitude to the applicants for their patience during the recruitment process. “The Police Service Commission wishes to appreciate the applicants for their patience and understanding while efforts were made to ensure that the exercise was inclusive and generally acceptable,” he stated.

The PSC emphasized its commitment to a transparent and merit-based recruitment process. “The commission also states that it will continue to ensure that recruitment into the Nigeria Police Force is based on merit and respect for Federal Character principles,” Ani added.

The commission encouraged the successful candidates to view their new roles as a call to duty for the nation. The PSC will closely monitor the training programs to ensure the constables are well-prepared to address the security challenges facing Nigeria.
