Tinubu to Nigerians: Switch to Cheaper CNG at N200 or Pay N1,000 for Petrol

President Bola Tinubu has urged Nigerians to consider switching to Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) as a cheaper alternative to petrol, which now costs N1,000 per litre. During a meeting with executives of the Nigerian Independent Petroleum Company (NIPCO) in Abuja, Tinubu highlighted that CNG is available at just N200 per Standard Cubic Meter, offering significant savings for motorists.

The president praised NIPCO’s support for the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative (PCNGI), which aims to reduce the country’s reliance on expensive petrol. He noted that CNG is not only more affordable but also a cleaner fuel that lowers carbon emissions. Tinubu also announced incentives for commercial drivers, including free vehicle conversion kits to switch from petrol to CNG.

NIPCO’s director, Ramesh Kasangra, affirmed the company’s commitment to expanding CNG infrastructure across Nigeria, ensuring greater access to the fuel. The president encouraged continued private sector investment in the energy sector, as the government works towards long-term economic growth through cleaner energy solutions.
