President Bola Tinubu has announced the appointment of new leaders for Nigeria’s top intelligence agencies. Ambassador Mohammed Mohammed has been named the Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), while Mr. Adeola Oluwatosin Ajayi is the new Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS).
Ambassador Mohammed, who joined the NIA in 1995, has had a distinguished career in foreign service, with assignments in North Korea, Pakistan, Sudan, and most recently as Nigeria’s ambassador to Libya. Mr. Ajayi, a career intelligence officer, has served in critical roles across several states, including Bauchi, Enugu, and Rivers, rising to the position of Assistant Director-General before his latest appointment.
These new appointments follow the resignation of the previous NIA and DSS chiefs. President Tinubu has charged the new Directors-General with the responsibility of strengthening Nigeria’s intelligence operations and collaborating with other security agencies to tackle the nation’s pressing security issues. The President also expressed his appreciation to the outgoing chiefs for their contributions and wished them well in their future endeavors.
