The Sultanate Council has officially dismissed rumors circulating on social media about the supposed death of His Eminence, the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar III, urging the public to disregard the misinformation. According to Dr. Muhammadu Jabbi Kilgori, a senior counselor in the Sultanate Council, the Sultan remains in good health and recently traveled from Kaduna to Abuja for official duties.
Dr. Kilgori, speaking on behalf of the council, labeled the rumors as “fake news” and expressed concern over the intentions behind spreading such misinformation. “The Sultan is hale and hearty; in fact, I am with him as he attends an official engagement in Abuja,” Kilgori emphasized, urging Nigerians to ignore the baseless reports.
The Muslim Public Affairs Centre (MPAC) also issued a statement, clarifying that the Sultan is alive, well, and actively engaged in his responsibilities. MPAC encouraged the public to verify news sources before sharing information and praised the Sultan’s contributions to peace and Islamic unity in Nigeria. The organization highlighted the importance of truth and respect, stating that misinformation only serves to mislead and harm communities.
The Sultan, who ascended to the throne in 2006, is not only a leading figure in Nigeria’s Qadiriyya Sufi order but also serves as the president-general of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs.
