Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, representing Anambra South District, has passed away at the age of 52 in a London hospital. Ubah, who was undergoing surgery, died on Saturday, just two days after leaving Nigeria for the UK. He would have celebrated his 53rd birthday on September 3.
Ubah recently switched allegiance from the Young Progressives Party (YPP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and was planning to run for the 2025 governorship election in Anambra State. Despite his deteriorating health, which had been impacted by his campaign activities, he continued to work tirelessly for his political aspirations.
The Nigerian Senate confirmed his death, with spokesperson Yemi Adaramodu calling Ubah an exemplary leader and a committed public servant. “Senator Ubah was a beacon of hope and a champion of economic empowerment,” Adaramodu stated. President Bola Tinubu also expressed his condolences, describing Ubah’s death as a “significant loss” to the nation.
Ubah, the CEO of Capital Oil, had previously survived an assassination attempt in September 2022. His untimely death follows closely after the passing of Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo.
Senator Ubah’s contributions to his community and the nation were widely recognized, with many praising his dedication to legislative reforms and the development of Anambra South. His passing leaves a void in Nigerian politics, as he was known for his unwavering commitment to the progress and well-being of his constituents.
