The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has successfully enrolled 110 million Nigerians into the National Identification Numbers (NIN) database, marking a major milestone in the country’s digital identity drive.
Speaking at the 6th National Identity Day event in Abuja, NIMC Director General, Mrs. Abisoye Coker-Odusote, reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to accelerating enrolment to capture more citizens quickly.
Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, stressed the importance of safeguarding the vast amount of data now collected, noting that secure management of Nigeria’s identity information is crucial as enrolment grows.
National Identity Day, initiated in 2020 under President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration, is observed annually on September 16 to raise awareness about the significance of digital identity and encourage nationwide enrolment into the database. This year’s event brought together key stakeholders to further this mission.
