Nigeria’s national power grid collapsed again on Monday evening, causing widespread blackouts across the country. The outage occurred at around 6:48 PM, with power generation dropping from 3.87 gigawatts to zero, leaving millions of homes and businesses in darkness.
Electricity Distribution Companies (Discos) in Abuja, Enugu, Eko, and other regions confirmed the collapse, impacting states like Abia, Anambra, Enugu, Imo, and more. The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) reported that all their supply stations were offline, making it impossible to serve their customers.
Although the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) had yet to provide an official reason for the failure, stakeholders quickly began efforts to restore power. By late evening, about 50 megawatts had been restored to parts of Abuja and Benin, though most regions were still without electricity.
Discos reassured customers that they were working closely with the TCN to stabilize the grid, with updates expected soon. However, the blackout continues to disrupt everyday life, with homes, businesses, and essential services facing uncertainty as they await full restoration.
