A 32-year-old man, Lanre Ogungbe, was discovered dead in a hotel room at Authentic Hotel, located in the Soyoye area of Abeokuta, Ogun State. His body was found alongside an empty bottle of alcoholic drink, “Lakoko,” and a bottle of pesticide, “Sniper,” raising suspicions of a possible suicide.
According to the Ogun State Police Command spokesperson, SP Omolola Odutola, the hotel staff became concerned when Ogungbe, who had checked in for a brief stay, had not been seen for several hours. The hotel manager alerted the police after a staff member found him unresponsive in his room around 2 p.m. on Thursday.
Police responded quickly, and upon investigation, no signs of violence were observed on the deceased’s body. The items found beside him have led authorities to suspect ingestion of the substances. His body was taken to the General Hospital in Ijaiye for a post-mortem examination, and an investigation is ongoing to confirm the cause of death.
The Ogun State Police Command continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident to determine whether foul play was involved.
