The body of the late former Governor of Ondo State, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, CON, has made its journey back to Nigeria from Germany, where he passed away after a prolonged battle with prostate cancer.
The plane carrying the late governor’s remains touched down at about 3:39 p.m. on Friday, January 5, 2024. The emotional arrival was witnessed by his wife, Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, children, and siblings, with Prof. Wole Akeredolu, the immediate younger brother, leading the reception.
Governor Akeredolu, aged 67, passed away on December 27, 2023, leaving behind a legacy of public service. The arrival ceremony at the airport was attended by dignitaries, including Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, represented by his Chief of Staff, Mr. Tayo Ayinde, and Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Tokunbo Talabi. Senator Demola Adeleke, representing the Governor of Osun State, was also present.
In a touching moment, family members, friends, followers, and associates struggled to contain their emotions as the late Governor’s body was lowered from the plane.
The former governor’s aide, Mr. Richard Olatunde, shared the news on Facebook, stating that the details of the burial arrangements will be announced by the family at a later date. The remains of the late governor have been deposited at the morgue as preparations for the final burial get underway.
Rotimi Akeredolu’s return home marks the end of a chapter in Nigerian politics, leaving behind memories of dedicated service to the people of Ondo State.
