Barakat Adio, a housewife in Lagos, was tragically killed on Sunday during a confrontation with her neighbor, Cynthia Aigbondon, while they were both fetching water at a public tap in Ajegunle.
The dispute reportedly started over whose turn it was to use the only available public borehole in the area. The argument escalated into a physical fight, during which Cynthia allegedly retrieved a kitchen knife from her home and stabbed Barakat.
Neighbors intervened and apprehended Cynthia as she attempted to flee upon realizing the severity of Barakat’s injuries.
The incident was reported to the police by Barakat’s husband, Lukmon Adio, around 9:45 pm on the same day.
Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the tragic event, stating that Lukmon reported his wife’s murder at the station and identified Cynthia as the suspect.
