Joe Igbokwe, a notable chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former supporter of President Bola Tinubu, has voiced frustration over Nigeria’s worsening economic conditions. In a recent Facebook post, Igbokwe lamented the sharp rise in food prices, particularly noting that the cost of a bag of rice has now exceeded ₦100,000, despite Nigeria’s investment in rice mills.
Igbokwe went on to declare that those who will truly “rescue” Nigeria from its current challenges have “not yet been born,” implying that the nation is facing deep-rooted issues that current leadership cannot resolve.
This marks a significant shift for Igbokwe, who was an outspoken advocate for Tinubu during the election. Recently, however, he has grown increasingly critical of certain government policies, particularly those impacting cost of living and business operations.
Earlier, Igbokwe also raised concerns about rising electricity tariffs, sharing that ₦20,000 worth of electricity now lasts only a single day in his office, a drastic increase compared to previous billing periods. He urged President Tinubu to review the electricity pricing to prevent further harm to businesses and households.
Igbokwe’s recent remarks reflect a growing frustration with the economic difficulties faced by many Nigerians, as the cost of living continues to rise under the current administration.
