First Lady Oluremi Tinubu visited the Saraki family in Lagos on Tuesday to express her condolences following the death of their matriarch, Mrs. Florence Morenike Saraki. The visit was made with the permission of President Bola Tinubu to show solidarity and support during their time of grief.
Speaking to the Saraki family, the First Lady emphasized the close bond between the families, saying, “We are one family. Politics aside, Mr. President will always look out for you. Mama lived a good life. I know it hurts, but we thank God for the good life she lived,” according to a statement by her media aide, Busola Kukoyi.
Senator Bukola Saraki, former President of the Senate, expressed his appreciation for the First Lady’s visit. “You always see the bigger picture. I know you are here with the knowledge of the President. Thank you very much,” he said, praising her compassion and support.
Prayers were offered in both Christian and Islamic traditions for the repose of Mrs. Saraki’s soul and for the wellbeing of the President and the nation. The First Lady was received by members of the Saraki family, including Senator Gbemisola Saraki, Mrs. Tope Edu, and Mr. Laolu Saraki, along with other extended family members.
Mrs. Florence Morenike Saraki, who passed away on June 18 at the age of 89, will be laid to rest on Friday, July 19. A funeral service will be held at the Cathedral Church of Christ, Marina, Lagos, followed by a private interment.
