Federal Government Raises NYSC Members’ Allowance to N77,000, Effective July 2024

The Federal Government has approved a substantial increase in the monthly allowance for National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members, raising it from N33,000 to N77,000. This 133% increase will take effect starting July 2024 and aligns with the newly enacted National Minimum Wage (Amendment) Act 2024, aimed at improving the welfare of corps members nationwide.

The approval was communicated through a letter from the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission, signed by its Chairman, Ekpo Nta, on September 25, 2024. The increase follows advocacy efforts by NYSC Director-General, Brigadier General YD Ahmed, who sought an enhanced welfare package for corps members.

In a statement, Caroline Embu, the Acting Director of Information and Public Relations at NYSC, expressed the Director-General’s gratitude to the Federal Government for the timely gesture. She noted that the increased allowance is expected to boost morale and encourage corps members to contribute more effectively during their national service.

“The Federal Government has approved the increase of Corps Members’ monthly allowance to Seventy-Seven Thousand Naira (N77,000) with effect from July 2024,” Embu stated. “This adjustment not only brings much-needed financial relief to corps members but also serves as a strong motivator for their service to the nation.”

The increase comes as a response to calls for improved financial support for NYSC members, who play a vital role in various sectors across Nigeria during their one-year service. The previous monthly allowance had remained at N33,000 since it was last adjusted in 2020.

With this new development, NYSC members can look forward to improved financial stability as they continue to serve their country.
