The Federal Government of Nigeria has approved an increase in the fees for obtaining Nigerian passports, effective from September 1, 2024. According to a statement released by the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), the cost of a 32-page passport booklet with a 5-year validity will rise from ₦35,000 to ₦50,000. Similarly, the fee for a 64-page passport booklet with a 10-year validity will increase from ₦70,000 to ₦100,000.
The NIS spokesperson, Kenneth Udo, stated that the fee adjustment is part of efforts to maintain the quality and integrity of the Nigerian Standard Passport. He also noted that while the new fees will apply within Nigeria, they will remain unchanged for Nigerians in the diaspora.
The NIS expressed regret over any inconvenience the fee increase may cause but assured Nigerians of its commitment to transparency and quality service delivery.
