The Emir of Ningi, Alhaji Dr. Yunusa Muhammadu Danyaya, has died at the age of 88. The revered monarch passed away early Sunday morning at a hospital in Kano, just two days after returning from a medical trip to Saudi Arabia.
The Bauchi State Government confirmed the news in a statement released by Governor Bala Mohammed’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mukhtar Gidado. The governor expressed deep sorrow, describing the late emir as a man of peace, wisdom, and unwavering dedication to the welfare of his people.
“His Royal Highness, Alhaji Yunusa Muhammadu Danyaya, was a beacon of leadership, fostering unity and development across Ningi Emirate. His legacy as a guardian of tradition and Islamic values will inspire future generations,” the statement read.
The Emir’s career spanned decades, beginning as a dispenser at Nasaru Dispensary and progressing to influential roles within the Ningi Emirate Council, the Nigerian Tobacco Company, and the Northern Nigeria Marketing Board. He also served on several national committees, including the National Constitutional Conference and the Vision 2010 Traditional Rulers Sub-committee. His contributions were recognized with the Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON).
The Emir, born in 1936, was installed as the Emir of Ningi in 1978, a position he held for 46 years. The funeral rites will take place today at 4:00 PM at the Ningi Emirate Palace, following Islamic traditions.
Governor Bala Mohammed extended his deepest condolences to the Emir’s family, the Ningi Emirate Council, and the people of Bauchi State, praying for Allah to grant the late Emir eternal peace in Jannatul Firdaus and strength to those grieving this great loss.
