Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has declared that the start of fuel production at the Dangote Refinery will end Nigeria’s long-standing fuel shortages and significantly strengthen the economy. The refinery, with a capacity of 650,000 barrels per day, is expected to supply petrol to filling stations within 48 hours, following finalized agreements with the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC).
In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Lekan Adeniran, Abiodun highlighted the importance of the refinery in addressing Nigeria’s dependence on fuel imports, a challenge that has persisted for over three decades. He noted that producing fuel locally will conserve foreign exchange, reduce fuel prices, and create jobs, providing a much-needed boost to the economy.
Governor Abiodun praised Aliko Dangote for his determination in completing the multi-billion-dollar project and acknowledged President Bola Tinubu’s efforts in ensuring the refinery began operations during his administration. He also pointed to the upcoming revitalization of the Warri and Port Harcourt refineries, which will further reduce fuel scarcity and support economic stability.
Abiodun emphasized that these developments will enhance energy security, reduce fuel price volatility, and create a more attractive environment for businesses and foreign investment, further driving economic growth in Nigeria.
