Dr. Anuoluwapo Adepoju, the founder of MedContour Services Ltd, has been convicted on all five charges after performing several unsuccessful surgeries at her clinic.
One of these surgeries led to the death of Nneka Onwuzuligbo in 2020.
Dr. Anu and her clinic were charged by the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) for refusing to cooperate with an investigation into the post-surgery complications and failing to produce necessary documents.
The trial began on July 17, 2020.
A Federal High Court in Lagos was set to deliver its judgment on January 23, 2024. However, the judgment was postponed, and a new date was to be communicated.
On Friday, May 17, Babatunde Irukera, the former CEO of the FCCPC, announced that Dr. Anu has been convicted.
He wrote on X following her conviction: “Dr. Anu Adepoju & her medical practice convicted in all 5 counts charged by FCCPC. The wheel of justice may grind slow, but we must see it through.
“What we need are enforced with audacity & will to prosecute competently & diligently. Good day for consumers of professional services.”
He also wrote: “Today is a day of pride for me that I personally prosecuted Anu Adepoju & her medical practice. Though I’ve left, the case has ended in a conviction strengthening the accountability framework for all in society, professionals of otherwise. This is how society should work & grow.”
Dr Anu will be sentenced on a later date.
