The Nigerian Police Force (NPF) has announced the arrest and interrogation of Linus Williams, the CEO of Blord Group of Companies, over serious allegations including terrorism funding and cryptocurrency fraud. The interrogation is being conducted by the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) and the National Cybercrime Center (NPF-NCCC).
In a statement released on Tuesday, Force Spokesperson ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi outlined the charges against Williams, which also include aiding internet fraud, computer-related fraud, and non-compliance with regulatory frameworks.
“The FCID and NPF-NCCC are currently investigating complaints against Blord Group, Blord Real Estates Ltd, Blord Jetpaye Limited, and Billpoint Technology,” Adejobi said. “The allegations involve cryptocurrency fraud, aiding internet fraud, computer-related fraud, terrorism funding, and non-compliance with regulatory frameworks.”
The police emphasized their commitment to ensuring a safe and secure cyberspace in Nigeria and assured the public of a thorough investigation. “Our cyber space in Nigeria must be safe and secured by all means. We are committed to achieving that and will do due diligence in our investigations,” Adejobi stated.
This development comes amid growing concerns about the use of cryptocurrency for illegal activities and the need for stringent regulatory measures to curb financial crimes. The NPF’s actions highlight their dedication to combating cybercrime and ensuring national security.
