Popular activist lawyer Deji Adeyanju has called on Governor Usman Ododo of Kogi State to surrender his predecessor, Yahaya Bello, to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for trial. Adeyanju made this demand on social media, describing Ododo as an impunity-loving governor.
Bello, who anointed Ododo as his successor, has been in hiding since the EFCC initiated a fraud case involving N80.2 billion. When EFCC operatives attempted to arrest Bello at his Abuja residence, Ododo reportedly intervened and whisked him away, leading to the EFCC placing Bello on their wanted list.
Bello has sought to transfer his case to Kogi State, but Justice John Tsoho, Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, dismissed the application, agreeing with the EFCC that the case should remain in Abuja.
Amid these developments, there are reports that Bello is being sheltered at the Kogi State Government House. Adeyanju has criticized Governor Ododo, urging him to hand over the fleeing ex-governor to the anti-graft agency to face trial for his alleged corrupt acts.
