The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested Alex Mascot Ikwechegh, a House of Representatives member from Abia, for allegedly assaulting a Bolt driver, Stephen Abuwatseya, in Abuja. Ikwechegh, who represents Aba North and South Federal Constituency under the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), was taken into custody at Maitama Police Station, where he is undergoing questioning.
The incident, which has since gone viral, occurred after Abuwatseya delivered a package of snails ordered by Ikwechegh. A disagreement reportedly escalated when the driver requested payment, which led Ikwechegh to verbally threaten and physically slap him. Video footage captures Ikwechegh refusing to pay the driver and expressing disdain toward law enforcement, allegedly stating, “Go ahead and call the Inspector General of Police.”
Following public outcry, the FCT Police Command has launched a thorough investigation. Commissioner of Police Olatunji Disu assured that the probe would be impartial, and appropriate legal action would be taken based on the findings.
