Nollywood actor Junior Pope Odonwodo, known as Jnr Pope, tragically lost his life in a boat accident during a film production trip in Anambra State. The incident occurred when the boat capsized after colliding with another vessel in the River Niger area.
Junior Pope was among five individuals on the boat, with one crew member’s body recovered, and three others still missing. His demise has shocked the Nollywood community, prompting an outpouring of condolences on social media.
The news was initially shared by filmmaker Samuel Olatunji, who expressed sadness over the loss of four actors in the accident. Junior Pope leaves behind his wife and three children.
In a poignant video posted before the accident, Junior Pope highlighted the risks actors take to entertain audiences, pleading with the boat captain to slow down due to safety concerns.
Initial reports of Junior Pope’s survival circulated briefly but were later retracted, confirming his passing. The National President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, Emeka Rollas, expressed sorrow over the loss, emphasizing the futile efforts to revive the actor after the accident.
