Amy Dowden, beloved Strictly Come Dancing star, was rushed to the hospital on Saturday night after collapsing backstage during the live show. The 34-year-old dancer, who recently rejoined the competition after undergoing treatment for breast cancer, began feeling unwell mid-show, prompting an ambulance call to Elstree Studios in Borehamwood as a precaution.
Dowden was admitted to Barnet Hospital for further assessment, and though she missed Sunday’s results show, her spokesperson confirmed that she is feeling much better. “Amy is deeply grateful for the outpouring of support and the concern from her Strictly family and fans,” they said, adding a request for privacy as Dowden focuses on her recovery.
This health scare is the latest in Dowden’s challenging journey, which began in May 2023 when she was diagnosed with stage three breast cancer shortly after her honeymoon. Later that year, Dowden faced a life-threatening bout of sepsis during chemotherapy, an ordeal she described in the BBC documentary Strictly Amy: Cancer and Me. She candidly shared how cancer changed her life and expressed her joy at returning to dance in Strictly’s 2024 season.
Dowden and her dance partner, JB Gill of JLS, quickly became fan favorites, especially after their top-scoring waltz in early performances. Although her ability to participate in upcoming shows remains uncertain, Dowden’s resilience and dedication to dance continue to inspire both fans and the Strictly team.
