Steve Bruce to Miss Blackpool Game After Tragic Loss of Grandson

Steve Bruce

Blackpool manager Steve Bruce will miss Saturday’s League One match against Barnsley following the heartbreaking death of his four-month-old grandson, Madison.

The club confirmed the news in a statement, calling Madison’s passing “sudden and unexpected,” and extended their condolences to Bruce and his family, asking for privacy as they grieve.

Madison was the son of Matt Smith, Bruce’s son-in-law and former professional footballer who played for clubs such as Millwall, Leeds United, and QPR. Millwall FC also sent their “unconditional love and support” to Smith, who made 91 appearances for the club.

Steve Bruce’s son, Alex Bruce, who is an assistant manager at Salford City, will also be absent from his team’s match against Crewe Alexandra this weekend to be with family.

Both Blackpool FC and Salford City have offered heartfelt messages of support to the Bruce and Smith families during this incredibly difficult time.
