Speed Darlington, the popular Nigerian singer and social media personality, has been confirmed to be in police custody in Abuja after his arrest in Lagos last Friday. The arrest followed a formal complaint made by Grammy-winning artist Burna Boy, though details of the petition remain unclear.
Darlington’s mother, Miss Queen, took to Instagram in an emotional plea, begging Burna Boy to forgive her son and release him. In her video, she claimed that Darlington’s security personnel informed her that Burna Boy and his associates came to her son’s house and took him away. Miss Queen, visibly distraught, asked for mercy, stating, “Burna Boy, please, I am on my knees, forgive my son. Temper justice with mercy.”
Activist and lawyer Deji Adeyanju confirmed that Darlington, also known as Akpi, was arrested and moved to Abuja, where he has been detained since. Adeyanju met with Darlington and shared on social media that the arrest was related to a petition filed by Burna Boy.
Darlington’s disappearance was initially brought to public attention by social media influencer Constance Nwogu, who raised concerns after Darlington had been unreachable for three days. Speculation arose that his arrest might be linked to a recent video where Darlington criticized Burna Boy’s Grammy win and made comments about his association with American rapper Sean “P Diddy” Combs.
As of now, the Nigerian Police Force has not released an official statement regarding the arrest. Meanwhile, Speed Darlington’s mother, along with his fans, continues to call for his release.
