South African rugby star and Springbok captain Siya Kolisi and his wife, Rachel Kolisi, have announced their decision to end their marriage after eight years. The couple, known for their inspiring partnership both on and off the field, shared the news in a joint statement on Instagram on Tuesday.
“This decision comes from a place of love, respect, and understanding that this is the best path forward for both of us,” the statement read. “While our relationship as a couple is changing, we remain close friends and committed partners in raising our children with the same love and care they’ve always known.”
Siya and Rachel, who married in 2016, are parents to four children, including two siblings that Siya adopted. They emphasized their continued dedication to co-parenting and asked for privacy as they transition into their new roles.
Beyond their family life, the couple reaffirmed their commitment to the Kolisi Foundation, which they co-founded in 2020. The foundation focuses on addressing inequality through sports and education, promoting food security, and fighting gender-based violence. Rachel, who serves as the foundation’s CEO, expressed that their shared mission will continue.
“We will keep working together on the foundation that means so much to us,” they said in the statement. “We are grateful for the love, support, and understanding you’ve shown us, and we kindly ask for your respect as we navigate this transition.”
The couple’s separation comes at a significant time, as Siya prepares to lead South Africa in the upcoming Rugby World Cup. Their joint work on the Kolisi Foundation, which began during the 2019 World Cup, remains a reflection of their shared passion for creating positive change in their community.
Despite their separation, Siya and Rachel remain united in their dedication to their children, foundation, and the values they built together.
