Afrobeat singer Seun Kuti has accused Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo of using the tragic death of Nigerian singer Mohbad to push an agenda against his former record label boss, Naira Marley.
Kuti responded to Ojo’s criticisms, where she accused him of confusing the youth by supporting controversial activist VeryDarkMan. He argued that Ojo’s activism was not genuinely aimed at seeking justice for Mohbad but was instead targeted at Naira Marley.
In a video shared on Instagram, Kuti stated, “You politicized Mohbad’s death. I don’t believe it was about justice. The government findings said Mohbad died of substance abuse. If you accept that, what are we doing? It seems like a movement against Naira Marley.”
Kuti also questioned the sincerity of the movement for justice, noting the absence of efforts to address bullying and confraternities in Nigeria. He challenged the commitment of celebrities who he claimed are friends with gang members and bullies, asking, “Where is the movement for justice for Mohbad now?”
