Renowned Nigerian actor Abdulsalam Sanyaolu, popularly known as Charles Olumo or “Agbako,” has passed away at the age of 101. The Theatre Arts and Motion Pictures Practitioners Association of Nigeria (TAMPAN) President, Bolaji Amusan, announced the actor’s death on Instagram on Thursday.
Born on February 19, 1923, in Abeokuta, Ogun State, Agbako was a beloved figure in the Nigerian film industry, celebrated for his action roles in Yoruba films. Before his acting career began in 1953, he worked as a mechanic in Lagos and had a stint as an amateur boxer. He became a popular face in classic Nigerian movies such as Taxi Driver, Jagun, Aiye, and Soworo Ide, earning a special place in the hearts of audiences.
Fellow actor Jide Kosoko also mourned Agbako’s passing, noting his remarkable contributions and longevity in the film industry. Further details on burial arrangements are expected to be announced in the coming days.
