Nollywood Star Chris Bassey Transitions to Plumbing Career After Moving to Canada

Chris Bassey

Nollywood actor and producer Chris Bassey has made an unexpected career shift after relocating to Canada, trading the spotlight of the Nigerian film industry for a new career as a plumber. Bassey revealed this change during an Instagram Live chat with media personality Daddy Freeze.

When asked about his current profession, Bassey explained, “I’m into construction here. I do construction; I am a plumber.” He shared that this new career provides better financial stability and a more relaxed lifestyle than tech jobs, which are often perceived as lucrative options for many immigrants.

Bassey expressed that his new path in plumbing has allowed him to explore Canada in ways he never imagined. He noted in Nigerian Pidgin, “In the last seven months, the province I have visited just on weekends in Canada, even person wey dey do tech no fit afford am.” His statement underscores the financial rewards of his new line of work.

The shift from acting to plumbing may come as a surprise to fans who remember Bassey for his roles in Nollywood films, but he joins a growing list of Nigerian celebrities who have embraced new careers abroad. Actress Regina Askia-Williams, for example, left Nollywood for a career in nursing after moving to the United States and now works as a Family Nurse Practitioner in New York City.

For Bassey, the decision to switch careers was about finding a more sustainable and fulfilling path in his new home. “I want a job that provides stability and allows me to enjoy life more,” he said, adding that plumbing has opened up new opportunities and experiences for him.

Chris Bassey’s journey reflects the evolving stories of many Nigerian professionals abroad who are exploring new horizons beyond their previous careers, seeking both stability and personal growth.
