In a revealing interview, Nicole Kidman opened up about the challenges she faced while filming the erotic thriller Babygirl, set to hit theaters on Christmas Day. The 57-year-old Oscar-winning actress admitted that the intensity of the sexual scenes pushed her to her limits, leading her to temporarily halt production at times.
Kidman stars as a high-powered CEO who embarks on a passionate affair with a much younger intern, portrayed by Harris Dickinson, while navigating a troubled marriage with her husband, played by Antonio Banderas. In candid comments to The Sun, Kidman said, “There were moments when I thought, ‘I don’t want to orgasm anymore.’” She further expressed her discomfort, recalling that she often had to tell the crew, “Don’t come near me. I hate doing this. I don’t care if I’m never touched again in my life.”
The filming process took a toll on Kidman, describing it as “almost burnout.” She explained that the emotional demands of the scenes left her feeling overwhelmed, but she also acknowledged the deep trust and care shared among the cast. “Harris, Antonio, and I took great care to tell the story with sensitivity,” she noted, emphasizing the importance of their collaboration.
To ensure comfort during intimate scenes, the cast worked with intimacy coordinators, and Kidman found particular solace in working with director Halina Reijn. “Having a female director made all the difference,” she explained. “I felt safe and unexploited. Halina and I had deep conversations that allowed me to explore my character fully.”
Kidman’s decision to take on the role was supported by her family, including her husband, country star Keith Urban, and their two teenage daughters, Sunday and Faith. “We had to reach an understanding as a family,” she said. “They recognized the artistic journey I needed to embark on.”
Known for her willingness to tackle provocative roles, Kidman reflected on her career’s evolution and her desire to explore complex narratives. “I’m always asking myself, ‘What haven’t I done? What can I explore next?’”
As anticipation builds for Babygirl, with its tantalizing trailer already stirring excitement, Kidman hopes the film will resonate with audiences beyond its sensual elements. “This is a story I felt passionate about, and I gave everything to it,” she concluded.
