Mike Bullard, a pioneering Canadian comedian and former talk show host, has passed away at the age of 67. His family confirmed his death, with a suspected heart attack as the cause.
Bullard, known for his quick wit and engaging crowd work, rose to prominence with his late-night talk show Open Mike with Mike Bullard, which aired from 1997 to 2003 on CTV. The show earned him two Gemini awards and solidified his place as a household name in Canadian entertainment. He briefly hosted The Mike Bullard Show on Global and later transitioned to radio, hosting Beyond the Mic with Mike Bullard on NewsTalk 1010 until 2016.
Though his career faced challenges after a criminal harassment charge in 2016, Bullard remained an influential figure in Canadian comedy. In 2022, he volunteered in Ukraine, aiding humanitarian efforts following Russia’s invasion, showcasing a lesser-known compassionate side.
Bullard is remembered for his groundbreaking achievements in Canadian television, his knack for crowd interaction, and his kindness toward other comedians. Funeral arrangements will be announced later as his family grieves in private.
