Kendrick Lamar continues his feud with Drake by releasing the music video for his diss track “Not Like Us” on July 4. Directed by Lamar and Dave Free, the video highlights California culture and directly responds to disses from Drake’s tracks “Push Ups” and “Family Matters.”
The video features Lamar doing push-ups on cinderblocks, referencing Drake’s “Push Ups.” It also includes owl symbolism, a nod to the mascot for Drake’s record label OVO Sound, with Lamar smashing an owl piñata. A disclaimer reads: “No OVHoes were harmed during the making of this video.”
In the video, Lamar is seen dancing with his partner Whitney Alford and their children, addressing Drake’s allegations of abuse and paternity from “Family Matters.”
“Not Like Us” was released on May 4 and produced by DJ Mustard. The song calls Drake a “certified pedophile” and criticizes his industry relationships and appropriation of Black American culture.
The release of the video on Independence Day follows Lamar’s performance of “Not Like Us” at his Juneteenth concert, “The Pop Out,” where he performed the track six times, which many saw as a direct challenge to Drake.
The video, which has already garnered over 13 million views, features several references to Drake and Toronto, including a cameo by NBA player DeMar DeRozan, who previously played for the Toronto Raptors.
Fans have praised the video for its celebration of Compton, California, and Lamar’s continued jabs at Drake. The “Not Like Us” video hints at a possible new project from Lamar, adding another layer to the ongoing feud.
