Nigerian socialite and sex therapist Hauwa Mohammed, widely known as Jaruma, has opened up about her harrowing experience with drug addiction, revealing that she was introduced to hard drugs by a billionaire’s wife and the late Dr. Anu, a controversial Lagos-based plastic surgeon.
In a recent forum organized by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Jaruma shared her story of how unexpected fame and influential connections led her down a dangerous path. According to her, it all began when the wife of a wealthy businessman tricked her into inhaling a substance from a balloon, leaving her disoriented and fearful. This incident marked the start of her struggle with addiction.
Jaruma further recounted how she later met Dr. Anu, who offered her an injection, claiming it would help her sleep and escape her problems. Trusting the doctor’s words, Jaruma agreed to the injection, only to find herself unconscious for two weeks. This marked the beginning of a deeper dependency, with Jaruma eventually escalating her use of the drug, leading to severe health issues, including convulsions and near-death experiences.
Throughout her journey, Jaruma faced intense physical and mental challenges, culminating in a suicide attempt. She has since taken legal action against Dr. Anu, though she chose to forgive the surgeon following her recent passing.
Jaruma’s revelations have sparked mixed reactions among the public. While some criticized her for not taking responsibility for her choices, others expressed empathy for the challenges she faced in the spotlight. Through her story, Jaruma hopes to raise awareness about the dangers of drug addiction and the powerful influence of those in one’s social circle.
