Nigerian music legend Onyeka Onwenu, fondly known as the “Elegant Stallion,” will be laid to rest today in Lagos. The celebrated artist passed away on July 30, 2024, at the age of 72, after collapsing at an event honoring Dr. Stella Okoli, the Managing Director of Emzor Pharmaceuticals. She was rushed to Reddington Hospital in Ikeja, where she later died.
The funeral service will be held at the Fountain of Life Church in Ilupeju, Lagos, starting at 10 a.m. with a Service of Songs, followed by the burial from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at a private vault in Ikoyi. The arrangements, announced by her family, invite close friends, family members, and well-wishers to pay their final respects to the music icon who made an indelible mark on Nigeria’s entertainment industry.
Onyeka Onwenu, celebrated for her unique voice and cultural impact, is survived by her two sons, who continue to honor her memory and legacy.
