Nollywood actress Halima Abubakar has issued a public apology to Apostle Johnson Suleman, General Overseer of Omega Fire Ministries, for making false accusations against him. The apology, shared on her Instagram page, follows a court ruling in April 2023 that ordered her to pay ₦10 million in damages for defamation.
In her statement, Abubakar admitted that her allegations were untrue and expressed deep regret for the pain caused to Apostle Suleman, his wife, Dr. Lizzy Suleman, their family, and church leaders.
“I acknowledge the falsehoods I spread and the harm they caused,” she wrote. “After much reflection, I humbly ask for your forgiveness, recognizing that my apology cannot undo the hurt.”
The controversy began in 2022 when Abubakar alleged that she had a romantic relationship with Suleman and accused him of immoral and diabolical activities. In response, Suleman filed a defamation lawsuit, which culminated in the Federal High Court in Abuja awarding him ₦10 million in damages. The court also barred Abubakar from making further defamatory statements.
In her apology, the actress cited poor judgment at the time of the allegations and said the apology was motivated by a desire to align her conscience with God. “I was not thinking clearly back then,” she admitted. “Please forgive me for the harm I caused, and may God calm your heart.”
Apostle Suleman has not yet made any public comment on the apology.
