Dan Schneider, former Nickelodeon producer, responds to allegations of inappropriate and abusive behavior surfaced in the docuseries “Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV.” The series unveiled accusations of misconduct during Schneider’s tenure on shows like “The Amanda Show” and “Victorious.”
In an interview with “iCarly” actor BooG!e on his YouTube channel, Schneider expressed difficulty in confronting his past behaviors, acknowledging some actions as “embarrassing” and deserving of apology. He specifically addressed accusations of making inappropriate jokes and requesting massages on set, expressing remorse for putting individuals in uncomfortable situations.
Schneider also refuted claims of having complete creative control, stating that multiple levels of scrutiny existed, including oversight from executives, crew members, and parents on set. He denied involvement in determining writers’ salaries but acknowledged the common industry practice of splitting salaries for first-time writers.
Additionally, Schneider distanced himself from hiring Brian Peck, a former dialogue coach convicted of child sex abuse, emphasizing his devastation upon learning about actor Drake Bell’s assault by Peck.
However, critics, including former “Zoey 101” actor Alexa Nikolas, questioned Schneider’s sincerity and called for a private apology. Nickelodeon, in response to past production set behaviors, reiterated its commitment to investigating formal complaints and ensuring a safe work environment.
The network emphasized its dedication to the well-being of employees and children, underscoring numerous safeguards implemented to uphold high standards and audience expectations.
