Florida Rapper Foolio Killed in Car Park Shooting

US rapper Foolio, whose real name was Charles Jones, was shot and killed at age 26 in a hotel car park in Tampa, Florida. The incident occurred early Sunday morning during celebrations for his birthday.

Jones’ lawyer, Lewis Fusco, described the incident as an ambush. Jones had relocated to the hotel after being asked to leave an Airbnb due to exceeding occupancy limits. Police found two vehicles that had been shot at and discovered Jones dead at the scene. Three other individuals were also shot and are in stable condition at a nearby hospital. Authorities are working to determine a motive and identify suspects, urging the public to provide any information that might help with the investigation.

Jones, known for his emotional and hard-edged trap music, had garnered tens of millions of streams since 2017. He collaborated with top producer Zaytoven and rappers such as Blueface and G Herbo. Despite facing multiple attempts on his life, including a 2021 drive-by shooting in Jacksonville, Jones continued to create music. He lost 15 friends to violence before the age of 20 and experienced long-term imprisonment as a young adult.

Foolio had nearly a million monthly listeners on Spotify, with his top track being “Voo Doo”. Recently, he posted about his birthday celebrations on Instagram, mentioning that police had shut down his party. His death marks a significant loss in the music community, highlighting the ongoing issues of violence and its impact on artists and their environments.
