Veteran Nollywood actress Bimbo Akintola has opened up about why she remains unmarried at 54, attributing her decision to the death of her soul mate. In a heartfelt interview with fellow actor Emmanuel Ehumadu, the actress revealed that the person she envisioned spending her life with had passed away, leaving her unwilling to settle for less.
Akintola shared that it took her a long time to find the love of her life, only to lose him. “He died… I don’t talk about it much, but he passed away. Do you know how long it took me to find him? A very long time, but he’s gone,” she said. The actress made it clear that she’s not interested in marriage for marriage’s sake, stating, “If you’re not going to be true to your vows, why do it? The person I could have spent forever with is gone.”
Despite the loss, Akintola remains open to the idea of marriage if she meets the right person. She explained, “If I ever find someone else and I see forever with them, I’ll do it, even if I’m 82. But I won’t marry just because society expects it. I won’t settle for anything less than true love.”
Akintola also highlighted the challenges of marriage, saying it requires more than just a formal commitment. “Marriage is difficult. It’s not something I would want to enter into with someone I can’t see a lifelong future with,” she said.
Throughout her career, Bimbo Akintola has been a well-respected figure in Nollywood, making her debut in the 1995 film Owo Blow. Her career continued to flourish with roles in films like Out of Bounds (1997) and a nomination for Best Actress in a Leading Role at the 2013 Nollywood Movies Awards.
As Akintola continues to focus on her acting career, she remains true to herself and her values, refusing to compromise on love, no matter the pressures from society.
